Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist, Geologist, Engineer or Hydrogeologist to join its collaborative team in Bethlehem, PA . This individual will serve a key function in assisting with the natural resource planning, assessment and permitting of land development and infrastructure projects, and leading specific assignments and tasks. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of top-notch professionals in a variety of geographic areas and regulatory programs, and to collaborate and learn from our multi-disciplinary team of site/civil, geotechnical, survey, and landscape architect professionals on landmark land development projects

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare the natural resource planning, assessment and permitting documents for land development and infrastructure projects in close collaboration with Project Personnel;
  • Effectively use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess the natural resource characteristics of project sites for natural resource assessment and permitting due diligence to plan and design projects;
  • Perform natural resource feasibility assessments for development projects;
  • Write and/or review draft due diligence reports, assessment and permit applications;
  • Prepare site assessments and related natural resource figures using GIS and AutoCAD software;
  • Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations by performing field tests, collecting samples, collecting and recording data, and performing routine calculations;
  • Collect soil, soil vapor, indoor and ambient air, sediment, surface water, and groundwater samples;
  • Review and interpret environmental, geological, and historical records to support environmental due diligence;
  • Prepare a variety of standard logs and field forms (such as drilling logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs);
  • Identify and implement solutions to both routine and more complex field problems and document them accurately, keeping project manager informed or problems encountered during work assignments;
  • Lead tasks associated with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates and designs for projects;
  • Interact in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives in close collaboration with supervisor;
  • Supervise or coordinate the work of staff engineers, interns and others who assist in specific assignments as needed;
  • Coordinate and perform field inspection services, as needed; and
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology or Planning;
  • 3+ years of experience in natural resource assessment and permitting;
  • Familiarity with current local, state, and federal land use permitting;
  • Strong GIS and AutoCAD skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to occasionally participate in field work and work during evenings and/or weekends, as needed by project schedule;
  • Occasional travel to project sites and/or client locations, as required; and
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver's license in good standing.
