Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Long Beach, California, on a contract basis. In this role, you will oversee payroll operations, ensure compliance with regulations, and provide expertise in using Kronos Workforce Central for timekeeping and scheduling. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the efficient and accurate management of payroll processes within a local government setting.
Responsibilities:
- Process payroll cycles accurately and on time using Kronos Workforce Central, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
- Review and reconcile payroll data, including hours worked, overtime, and time-off entries.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for Kronos, providing troubleshooting support and ensuring smooth system integration.
- Update and configure Workforce Central to align with company policies and labor regulations.
- Monitor payroll-related legislation to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, garnishments, and benefits contributions.
- Generate detailed reports such as labor cost analyses, tax documentation, and audit requirements.
- Address employee inquiries regarding payroll adjustments, corrections, and policy clarifications.
- Provide training to employees and managers on using Kronos for time tracking and scheduling.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy. Requirements - Proven experience in payroll processing or a related role, preferably within a local government environment.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Kronos Workforce Central and other payroll systems.
- Strong knowledge of payroll practices, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reconciliation.
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll management and general ledger integrations.
- Certification in Payroll (e.g., Certified Payroll certification) is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for employee interaction and collaboration.
